After updating to builds 9317.272 or 8309.973, Mobility enablement will no longer be required. Licence Considerations for SfB Mac Client courtesy of Lync Dude Features and Functionality The Mac client still doesn’t have the same level of features as the Windows based client unfortunately. This i can only see being worked on on future releases. I think Mac users will be very happy to have a new client but still feel they are a little behind with feature set.

Note To connect Lync for Mac 2011 to Skype for Business Online in Office 365, you must have Lync for Mac version 14.0.6 or a later version installed. If you use a version that's earlier than version 14.0.6, you may have problems when you sign in to Skype for Business Online because earlier versions have issues that prevent authentication to. My Mac users have said they are unable to schedule meetings since going to Skype for Business on the Mac. Is there an Outlook add-in like on - 36280. Sign In Sign In. I have 16gb ram, i7 cpu, gigabit ethernet port on google fiber, why the eff does it take 10 seconds to send a few bits of data 150ft across the office in 2016? I'm trying to convince by company to switch to Slack and it looks like they may take that route once ScreenHero is integrated. Sounds like you have issues with your deployment or are talking about Skype for consumers. I was a Skype for Business/Lync engineer at Microsoft for 6 years, and can show you deployments where hundreds of thousands of people are using it without issue on a daily basis for critical functions. That IM you send is not peer to peer, it traverses the network to your datacenter, then to the other user. It's not a few bits of data, ever, considering end to end encryption.

Third problem: When I'm placing a new call, why disable the speakerphone button?! This app requires that the call be connected first, and then I can enable speaker. But, that requires that the other party wait on me before the conversation can begin.

Thought spent i little time collecting some information into a blog post on the mac client and sharing my install of the client and a quick look around. Also Iain Smith (MVP) talks about the Mac client in the Skype show episode 10 Microsoft client Download link Points to Note before you download the client. System requirements for your MAC to use Skype for Business • OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) or OSX 10.12 (Sierra) • Outlook Mac build 15.27 (161010) required for Outlook integration Office 365 and Lync / Skype for Business Server topology Microsoft are recommending to get the latest and greatest to move to Skype for Business Online but that not an option for everyone. For on premise bad boys Looks like there will be new CUs for SfB Server and Lync Server to remove requirement for mobility to be deployed and also to support E911. • Skype for Business Server 2015 or Lync Server 2013 • Skype for Business Server 2015 customers should at a minimum download and install the Skype for Business Server 2015 Cumulative Update version 9319.272 or higher (coming soon) • Lync Server 2013 Cumulative Update version 8308.973 or higher (coming soon) • Unfortunately Lync 2010 Server – Lync Server 2010 is not supported – There users will have continue to use the Lync for Mac 2011 client. Mobility Requirement and Enablement The Mac client works like a mobile client so you need mobility enabled but I also noticed the below so it looks like there will be a number CU released soon for SfB server and Lync Server which allows the Mac client to work without mobility being enabled. This is a major dependency.

It’s still Lync for Mac 2011. Somebody didn’t do their update) So what do we have for our Mac friends?

But the next day I could connect. When I tested the instructions at work, the connection worked the first time. • If you still can't connect, or for other issues, see.

It will only present the main desktop into the meeting. Users should change the desktops via OS Display settings in order to present a secondary desktop. • Using USB and Bluetooth devices while Running Lync for Mac 2011 and Skype for Business for Mac side by side can result in a bad joining and call experience.

For Office Insider Fast, it may take over a month to receive the next Production release due to being one version ahead of Office Insider Slow and Production during a given month. Thus, users will have to remove the build and download and install an older update. MacAdmins is a good resource for finding older releases. @Anonymous - We are so glad you are liking the new Mac client.

Microsoft today of its Skype for Business Mac Public Preview, bringing expanded Skype capabilities to its Mac business users. The Public Preview of Skype for Business for the Mac follows the launch of Skype for Business on iOS. Skype for Business will be released in three stages leading to the public launch of the app during the third quarter of 2016. Starting today, Skype for Business Mac users will be able to see meetings in the Skype business client through built-in Outlook calendar integration, joining them with a click. Full screen video, content viewing, in-meeting chat, and the ability to invite additional people to the meeting are all supported features. In the second phase of the Public Preview, Microsoft plans to add instant messaging, presence, and contacts, which will come in the early summer. Phase three, which will include telephony features, will be available later in the summer.

The new client is, I’d say, a fair and equitable companion to the Windows Skype for Business client. There are some differences, and (as of now) a few limitations. But overall, I think our Mac customers will enjoy this client very much. What the Mac Client Has You wouldn’t expect any Skype for Business client not to have all the basics. The Mac client is no different. Presence status, IM, making/receiving phone calls, Meetings (Meet Now and Scheduled Skype Meetings), video calling, screen sharingall are included.

It concludes with troubleshooting information. Great walkthrough of all the detail from Martin here: List of Additional Known Issues from Iain here.

It was originally due for release in Q3 2016 but then revised to October 2016 although this seemed increasingly unlikely as October drew to a close. Even just a few days ago “we aren’t able to provide the exact date when Skype for Business 2016 Mac Client will be released”. It’s now clear that Microsoft simply left it very late in the month to release Skype for Business on Mac. SfB has been long awaited on Mac to replace the highly unreliable and maligned which hasn’t been updated by Microsoft since 2011. Until now, Mac users have either been stuck with the Lync or had to use or the recently released service in the meantime (more on those two later). Here’s an overview of the new Skype for Business 2016 Mac client. As stated in the introduction, anyone can now from Microsoft.

Everything on the car play touch screen and the iPhone display still indicates that the audio is still going through car play, even though it actually isn’t, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to get it back from the speakerphone to the car play. The last time this happened to me with car play, today, after loading the latest Skype for business update this morning before the meeting, I stayed in the meeting and disconnected from the wired car play and tried to use my air pods, the phone indicated that the audio switched to the air pods, but there was no audio at all. I was able to eventually get the audio to the air pods by putting them back into their case, closing the case, and then taking them out again.

Last Updated: September 17, 2018 You can now finally. The final version was released late on 26th October 2016 although Microsoft slipped it out quietly overnight as there was no until later. The to the new client was also released on November 22nd to include contact group management, contact tagging and stability improvements. Note that if you’re still using the Preview of Skype for Business on Mac, you can install the final release alongside it – it won’t copy over the Preview installation. Microsoft does recommend uninstalling Lync 2011 first as it may conflict with the new client. Here we take a closer look at the new Skype for Business Mac. The long awaited release of the Skype for Business Mac client was delayed in Q3 by Microsoft.

The Skype for Business Client Preview enables IT professionals with the Lync 2013 client to become familiar with the new Skype for Business user interface. Lync is becoming Skype for Business in the first half of 2015 delivering a new client experience. The Skype for Business Client Preview is provided to help IT professionals prepare for adoption and change management of the new user interface. It is an update to the existing MSI install for Office 2013 allowing IT admins to pilot and test the new Interface prior to the solutions' general availability. Skype for Business offers new and improved features that enable businesses to: • Increase adoption with the Skype-inspired client • Become more productive faster with the easy-to-use user interface • More efficient controls allows users to focus on communications and collaboration than on the technology.

Thank you for the question.and to for the answer: You can go to the Microsoft Auto Update prompt and de-select the checkbox to Join Office Insider program:. How does a user opt out of the Insider program? A: The first step is to clear the Insider check box. However, this affects only future build update notifications and does not revert the software that’s currently installed. For Office Insider Slow, since the non-Production build is run only for approximately seven (7) days each month before upgrading to the Production build, it’s likely that users will already be running the same build as the Production channel. However, if users have recently installed an Office Insider Slow build and have to revert to the earlier Production release, they will have to remove the build and download and install an older update.

• Choose Software. • Choose Skype for Business. • Choose Install to download the Lync for Mac 11 installation program onto your Mac. • After the Lync for Mac 11 installation program downloads to your Mac, go back to the Skype for Business page, and choose Lync for Mac 2011 update. • At the Microsoft download center, choose Download to download the Lync for Mac 2011 update program onto your Mac. • After the programs are finished downloading, go to Downloads on your Mac.

It even has a couple new features: One-click Meeting Join. Full-screen sharing. All within a nice clean typical-Mac-UI interface.

What I'd really rather they would do is kill Skype for Business and just add the business oriented features to the main Skype. Skype for Business, at least on Windows, is a complete disaster. It's mostly unrelated to Skype, at least for now. It was recently rebranded, and not for the first time: Versions * 2015 - Skype for Business Server 2015 * 2012 - Lync Server 2013 (RTM 11 October 2012) * 2010 - Lync Server 2010 * 2009 - Office Communications Server 2007 R2 * 2007 - Office Communications Server 2007 * 2006 - Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1 * 2005 - Live Communications Server 2005, codenamed Vienna * 2003 - Live Communications Server 2003 (Always a surefire sign a product isn't working but the managers really want it to: keep rebranding it!).

This can help you communicate changes to users, pace the roll-out process, and fully understand the benefits of upgrading to the latest client. Some features available with Skype for Business Server 2015 are not available in Skype for Business Online, see for specifics.

Older versions of the Mac OS are not supported. For Outlook Integration functionality, Outlook 2016 for Mac is required. What are the requirements for server-side support for the new Mac client? Office 365 is fully supported.

Me Area • View and update presence status. • View, but not edit, your note. Meetings • View your calendar appointments today and tomorrow.

The version of Office for Mac 2011 I have does not contain Lync, so don't have an earlier version I can update. How can I obtain a version of Lync for Mac OS X 10.11.5 so that I can participate in the conference with my client? I am Afraid you are out of luck Lync has been discontinued and never worked with Office 2011, all that well, it was always crashing. After the first few updates it was abandoned. One reason it was brought out at a time when everyone had slowwwwww Internet connections. I am not sure, I think you can subscribe to Skype for business, on Microsoft website. Skype (non-business) comes free with subscription to Office 2016.

It also reported that although screen sharing is possible, you can’t request or give mouse control and there is no access to advanced options such as whiteboard, polling or PowerPoint presentations. You can watch a brief video of the Preview of SfB for Mac in action here.

SfB Preview Version The SfB Preview is effectively the Skype for Business Mac Beta version and is therefore incomplete and is subject to bugs and crashes. You can still run the Preview of Skype for Business for Mac side-by-side with both the final version of Skype for Business and Lync for Mac so you don’t have to worry about breaking or overwriting the Preview or Lync if you install the final release. You’ll have to manually uninstall the Preview if you want to get rid of it. Like the final release of Skype for Business on Mac, access to the Preview has been shrouded in quite a bit of confusion.

I hadn’t before had issues with Skype and the air pods when Apple car play wasn’t in the scenario. Please fix this bug. Randall King, Slow! Needs more features. First problem: I rely on the 'Conversation History' folder in Outlook to find *all* of my SfB chats, not just the ones I happened to have on my Windows PC. It stinks that this app can't sync those and add them to my mailbox folder somehow.

• Choose Software. • Depending on your Office 365 plan: • If you see the following page, choose Skype for Business, choose your language, the edition that matches your other Office applications ( 32 bit or 64 bit - if you don't know, choose the default) and choose Install. Then go to step 5. • If Skype for Business is bundled with other Office 365 applications, you'll see the following page.

• - Choose this option if you want to deploy Skype for Business in a large enterprise. Note: If you don't see the Skype for Business download in your portal, make sure the you purchased includes it. Also, ask the person in your business who purchased it whether they assigned a license to you. • On the Install Skype for Business on Mac page, click Install.

It’s finally here! Microsoft has at last released the new Mac client for Skype for Business. (Okay, it was released on October 26. But I was on vacation.) As soon as I saw the announcement, I grabbed a copy and one of our test Macs.

Being a Windows guy, I thought for a moment that they’d stripped out many of the options. Until I realized that those options were available in the Skype for Business navigation menus instead. Which actually led me to finding some notable differences between client versions. Differences from Windows Client In keeping with the Mac’s “streamlined UI” motif, several items you’d find right away in the Windows client aren’t showing in the Mac client. At least, not at a glance. For instance, Call Forwarding.

In its place is call via work. However, RCC is still available in SfB but as its deprecated its not a recommended suggestion. Ultimately, if you need Microsoft to support RCC, then stick with Lync 2013 until end of support and use the time to plan your move to SfB native.

Release Roadmap Microsoft initially stated that the final public version of summer 2016. Released this roadmap to give a more detailed overview of its development: More news about the Skype for Business for Mac roadmap was released by Microsoft to the IT Pro Community in late April 2016 during a web broadcast confirming this indicating that there will be 3 Preview versions followed by the final release in Q3: However on September 13th 2016, Microsoft officially stated that there is now “no set date for the release of Skype for Business on Mac”. (1/2) Hi, Adam. Currently, there is no set date for the release of Skype for Business for Mac. — OfficeSupport (@OfficeSupport) Finally at the Microsoft Ignite event, it finally that Skype for Business for Mac will be released on October 2016 as covered earlier in this article and released a new roadmap for it: Microsoft has often kept Mac users hanging with release dates but with the much publicized scheduled roadmap for SfB, it seemed even up until Q2 2016 that Microsoft was definitely on track this time. Microsoft already had a Skype For Business For Mac prototype ready at the beginning of the year: Even more encouraging for Mac users was that Microsoft stated that it intends to make Skype for Business for Mac its “most modern Skype client”, better than even the Windows version (although we’ll believe that when we see it) and it has been built from the ground-up for Mac. An early Microsoft SfB for Mac demo also revealed a few things about how Skype for Business on Mac will look: As you can see, messages are displayed in a single window view with optional pop-out tabbed conversations and it looked early on like the product will be brought in line with the consumer version of Skype for Mac so that they eventually become one product.
