Use Gmail As Default Email For Word Mac

  1. How To Set Gmail As Default Email

There’s nothing you need to configure if you have decided to stick with the mail client that came bundled with your operating system. But if you use a third-party email client like Thunderbird, you can set that as the systemwide default for everything to do with email. Here’s how you can do that on the top three desktop operating systems. On Windows 7 through 10, first go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Associations and click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Now scroll down to the Protocols section, look for the MAILTO row, and double-click on it. You’ll then be able to select an email client of your choice (provided you have already installed it on your computer) from the popup that appears. You’ll also find an option to get an email app from the Windows Store and immediately associate it with mailto: links from the popup.

Many of the OS tips open a browser that is configured to default to Gmail, so if you’re only interested in opening web-based mailto links, skip to the browser guides. Besides being the most secure browsers, Chrome and Firefox are best for Gmail.

I have associated gmail as the default email client when opening mailto: links. I am wondering if it is possible to share my Word/Powerpoint etc. Files directly from the program as an attachment to my Gmail account. In Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac running on Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10) or later versions, you cannot set Outlook as the default application. In Outlook Preferences, under General, you enable the Make Outlook the default application for e-mail, calendar, and contacts option. Choose your email service (like iCloud) to access your Mailbox on your other devices, such as an iPhone signed into the same email account. Choose On My Mac to access your Mailbox only on your Mac. Name the mailbox and click OK.

• When you forward or reply to a message, Outlook uses the account that the original message was sent to. To change this preference, on the Outlook menu, click Preferences, and then under Email, click Composing. Under Format and account, clear the Reply and forward using the default e-mail account check box. Set up your default email reader Your default mail reader is what's used when you're browsing a web page and share it via email with a friend or colleague, or mail it to yourself for further reading. The Mac default is to use the Mail app, but you can change the default to Outlook. • Open Finder > Applications. • Select Mail.

Don’t forget, you can switch browsers if the instructions for yours don’t suit you. Safari users, in particular, might need to do so. Chrome To set Gmail as your default email handler in Chrome, open the settings via the three dots icon at the top right.

How do you add the profile back to the user without messing with the sync? The only thing I back up is the NK2 file (Outlook's auto complete). Then I remove the profile, and then re create it and let it download with the default setting, which I believe is 1 GB. Then I put the NK2 file back, that file is located in C: Users username AppData Roaming Microsoft Outlook, this way the user can have their auto complete back. I have seen sometimes that even tho Google Apps Sync is set to default, a users PST file can be 15 GB in size, I don't know if the user messed with that or a bug in Google Apps Sync.

Wonder whether it's time to switch back to a desktop email client? Look no further. We show you the merits of a local mail service., it makes sense to use the latter as the default handler for email links that appear in any program or on any web page.

Also, feel free to hide any other labels that you don’t need while offline, or labels for any of your Gmail rules that might create unnecessary duplicates in Mail. Note that you’ll have to log into Gmail in a browser if you need to look up messages with any of the labels that you excluded from Mail, including archived messages.

Instead of filing messages into single folders like Mail and most other clients, Gmail essentially lets you tag e-mail messages with multiple words like you can with photos on or bookmarks at. Because you can apply as many labels as you want to a message, and Google creates an All Mail folder to collect every message in your account, working with Gmail in Mail can get clunky, and fast. For instance, if you apply three labels to an inbox message in Gmail, five copies of that message will appear in Mail when you search for it: three for the aforementioned labels, one from the inbox, and one from the All Mail folder. Over time, though, both Google and third parties have attempted to bridge the gap between Gmail and Mail, with tactics that include adding more control over IMAP features and replicating some of Gmail’s productivity perks in Mail. Depending on your needs, Gmail and Mail can actually work quite well together, and we can show you how.

What I want to do is be able to use the “send email” tab in the Excel file drop down menu. But when I click on the send as email tab, Outlook Tries to open, but I get this message window: “Thank you for installing Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010. This trial has expired.

I started working with computers in 1996 with the advent of the Internet and started my own online shop selling musical instrument accessories in 2000. In 2006 I studied Multimedia Development & Design which opened up the world of Photoshop, HTML, Flash and JavaScript.

• Name the mailbox and click OK. If you don't see the mailboxes sidebar, choose View > Show Mailbox List. To show or hide mailboxes from an email account, move your pointer over a section in the sidebar and click Show or Hide. You can use Markup to draw and type directly on an attachment, like an image or a PDF document.

When I tried to print to mail a PDF, I got an error saying the action “New Mail Message” had encountered an error and I should examine the preferences and try again. Much googling terms later I had failed to find any way to resolve that error – I couldn’t figure out how to edit the action’s preferences – and I decided to give up. To restore Mail, I used Pacifist and my install disks to install Mail only, then downloaded the Mac OSX Update Combo 10.6.5 to update to the latest version.

Another pop-up window appears. Just choose mail.google.com from the drop-down menu next to mailto and you're done. For everything else, there's mailto The Mailto Chrome extension can make most webmail services your default mail client in Chrome.

Go to Mail -> Preferences, and select your Gmail account. Click on the Mailbox Behaviors tab and: • Enable Store Draft Messages On The Server if you want your drafts to be accessible in Gmail on the Web. • Make sure Store Sent Messages On The Server is checked, and that the Delete Sent Messages When popup menu is set to Never.

SO FRUSTRATING! Any ideas how I can just copy and paste and send? Thank you so much Leo!!!! I run 2 identical Toshiba Note Books on the old Vista Home Premium Windows Operation System. If one Note book goes down with a virus or what ever, I am able to fire up my 2nd Toshiba and all is good. I recently had an issue where I had to wipe and re-install Vista on one of my Toshiba’s and I had this issue where I could not email photos from Windows Photo Viewer.

Any time you click on a link that currently opens Outlook to send an email (for example, from the Drew Directory), the browser needs to know what email program you are using in order to open a 'Compose Email' window. Now that we have switched over to Google Mail, you'll need to make sure that your browser points to your Drew Google Mail account to send email. By default, the browser will choose the email program defined by the operating system.

• If Gmail appears for mailto under Ignored protocol handlers: • Click the x that appears to the right of the Gmail entry as you move the mouse cursor over it. • If Gmail does not appear as a choice for mailto under Active protocol handlers: • Visit Gmail again in a new Google Chrome tab.

I find it convenient to type “mailto:” into my Start>Run field, when I want to write a quick email. On this computer, it opens a blank Outlook email form. I installed google-talk last night, and suddenly, when I do “mailto:”, it opens a stupid Google web-email page. Make a iso in a mac for pc. I followed Leo’s advice, and checked Internet Options. [Microsoft] Outlook was still selected as the default.

While there’s a lot about Mac OS X that I think is wonderfully crafted, changing the default email program (or Web browser, for that matter) is pretty baffling. In the old days, there was a separate Control Panel for changing all these settings, but now you need to know the trick For changing your default email program, it turns out you need to launch the Mail.app program just once to get to its Preferences panel. When you start it up, the program will step you through the configuration steps, but you don’t have to finish these steps, just go step-by-step until the Preferences option on the Mail menu isn’t greyed out. Once you can get to the Preferences, here’s what you’ll see: The topmost element is what you want to change: pick the mailer you’d prefer as your default email handler (You can see that I use Microsoft Entourage, not Apple Mail). Click the little red button on the top left to close the window and quit Mail without finishing up the configuration steps. That’s all there is to it. If you wanted to change your default Web browser, by the way, Apple Safari has a similar option on its Preferences pane, in the “General” area.

That is, a IE mailto web link would use Hotmail and Outlook 2007 would go along merrily using pop3 type email. Any help please? This seems like it should be such a simple thing. I have years in IT with Microsoft software and I cant seem to fix this one on my own.

Under Format and account, clear the Reply and forward using the default e-mail account check box.

How To Set Gmail As Default Email

Trying to install windows mobile device center. During installation, i recieve this notification ' there is no email associated to perform the requested action.

• From there, find and click the Content settings option. • From there, scroll down to — and click — the Handlers section.

Regards, Phil. Hello Dianne, Please reply with a working solution for Windows 10 to allow default selection of a functioning program: e.g. OE6.v.05.exe (Outlook Express 6).

Find the “privacy and security” section by scrolling down and clicking “advanced.” Click “content settings,“ then hit “handlers” and make sure the “allow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols” option is selected. It will be colored, not gray, if it is. Open Gmail like normal. In the URL bar, there should be a gray diamond at the top right. Click it to make Gmail your default.

It works smoothly. But some people (like myself) prefer to use Gmail as their default mail client and don’t want to install a bulky desktop app. With just a few simple steps you can configure Gmail to be your default mail client and have Process Street emails open Gmail compose, pre-populated with the template right in your browser! Set Gmail as default email client in Chrome Browse to, find the double diamond shaped icon in the search bar at the top of your browser, and click it. After clicking the diamond icon, you’ll be prompted to allow Gmail to become the mail handler.

Using an installed email program for web mail The “right” workaround is somewhat cumbersome, but boils down to this: • Continue using your web-based email as you normally do. • Configure an installed email program — typically the default email program in Windows — to access your web-based email account.

These days mailboxes have greatly increased the accepted size for incoming messages so it’s common to email full size images, sometimes over 5MB each. More and more people want to skip this dialog and simply send the file they have, complete and untouched by Microsoft. • The Outlook message window created by the shortcut is ‘fixed’ or ‘modal’ in geek-speak (unlike a normal message pane in Outlook).

If this technique sounds familiar, it’s exactly the same setup that we use to your web-based email: install an email program on your PC and allow it to periodically download a copy of all your email. As a side effect, it can be set as the default email program for when you need to send. • - Web-based email services (such as Yahoo) were never designed to be a default Mail-to program, but there are a few ways to get around that. • - The first thing to understand is the difference between an online program (such as the Yahoo website) and a program running locally on your computer. Then I can point you in the right direction. • - Figuring out what is what with emails and email accounts can be quite confusing. But when all is said and done, you only need to change a simple configuration.

Please advise (many) how to get user preferences working in Windows. Regards, Phil.

When you first install Microsoft Word 2010, it automatically sets itself as the default program for handling Word documents. This means anytime you double-click a Word document from File Explorer or launch it from an email attachment, the document opens automatically in Word. However, a subsequently installed program or a manual override could have changed these settings so that Word is no longer the default program. To recover these settings, you need to reconfigure the file associations within Windows 8.

I could only find reference to a software that seems pretty outdated. I can't be the only person looking for this solution and Office/Excel aren't the only programs to use the Send as Email functionality. But most programs just look to whatever defaults in windows. For those who ask windows what to use the chrome handlers will work fine.

If you want to add a new field—for example, a message field—add it now, so you can fill in the field when you type the entry. • Under New field name, type the name of the field you want to add and then click + (plus sign). Tip: To change the order of the fields, choose the field you want to move, and then use the up or down arrow to move the field. • When all fields are set up as you want, choose Create to make a new list. Use an Existing List • Browse to the file you want to use and choose Open.

Since Gmail doesn’t have a desktop app, you’ll need to access it via a browser, so select your browser as your default for email. Now that you’ve chosen a browser to open links with, you’ll need to make sure it handles mailto links correctly, so check the guides below for your browser of choice. MacOS If you want to change the default Gmail handler on Mac, you’ll have to open the default “Mail” application and adjust its settings. Open the “Mail” menu, then select “preferences”. On the “general” tab, change “default email reader” to use your browser of choice. Read the browser-specific guides below to finish setting up.

SYSTEM-WIDE FUNCTIONALITY IS WHAT USERS BUY AN OS FOR! Windows user configuration lockouts and unavailable listing / selections of working programs is juvenile. Please accept the above serve as constructive criticism to provide a working solution. Else is fail. Regards, Phil.

I am in the process of eliminating Outlook for users that prefer to use Gmail website, but that is one feature that I haven't been able to get working. Whenever you go into excel/word and select email as attachment, it will try to open a non-existent outlook profile. I have been able to map links to gmail no problem. But Windows has no knowledge of gmail at all. Is there any plugin for chrome or gmail that can be used instead?

• To save your message as a draft for later, close the message, then click Save. • Open Mail, then from the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Mailbox > New Mailbox. • Choose the location for the Mailbox in the dialog that appears: • Choose your email service (like iCloud) to access your Mailbox on your other devices, such as an iPhone signed into the same email account. • Choose On My Mac to access your Mailbox only on your Mac.

You can do this at any time by clicking File > Save As > Rename. Share documents using OneDrive • In OneDrive, select the document that you want to share by checking the circle in the upper-right corner of the document tile (or to the left of the document name in the file list, depending on the file view you're using the OneDrive). • Click Share, and do any of the following: • To invite others to co-author your document, select the Allow editing check box.

Gmail as default email

Mail is set as the default email program on our Mac, so when we happen to click on an email link in anything (say, our browser), the Mail app automatically opens up and creates an email message. We don’t want that, we’d like to be able to designate our chosen email apps (I use Thunderbird, she uses Entourage). How do you change this?

Getting Gmail as your Firefox default is just as easy. Launch Firefox, and open the Preferences from the Firefox menu. Click on the Applications tab, and then find the mailto Content Type in that tab. Change the action there to Use Gmail. Quit and restart Firefox and you should be good to go. Chrome seems a bit tricker – I was unable to get this to work, so your mileage may vary. Launch a new Chrome window and open up Gmail.

That will just change the behavior of what happens when you click a mailto: link. I want to change the behavior of what happens when you use the built in functionality of software to Send email. Word, Excel, Windows Pictures, Windows Context Menus are some of the programs that use this functionality. These are not affected by the mailto setting.

Of course, you’ll just get a blank new tab in Chrome if you haven’t configured Chrome first to open mailto:links. Can’t find your webmail service listed in the mailto dropdown menu? You need the add-on. It allows you to choose from various popular webmail services and configure any of them as the default handler for mailto: links in Firefox.

To install it, type “sudo apt-get install desktop-webmail” in the command line. Once you’ve configured Gmail, you can set yourself up with a virtual private network to make sure nobody is snooping on your connection. Check out our helpful list of the for suggestions. Guides For Browsers If the guide for your OS points you to a browser for the last step, look for it below and follow the instructions.
